East Kingston Town Seal

Town News - New Town Salt Shed

East Kingston now has a salt shed stocked and waiting for the snow and ice season to begin. With the retirement of our long time Road Agent, Bob Rossi in July 2008 it became imperative that we look for a location as soon as possible because sand and salt needs to be ordered in August. After a review of Town owned property and looking at what leased property we could utilize for a salt shed, it became a challenge. Engaging into a lease on property meant we needed to wait until March 2009 for Town approval.

After review of Town owned property by the Selectman, Conservation Commission, Road Agent and input from various Environmental organizations the best suited piece was behind the Town Hall (old recycle center area).

Proper site work was completed, two tier asphalt pad laid, concrete block retainers and a 3-sided heavy duty canvas canopy was erected. The shed will contain a mixture of sand- salt during the winter season.

Many thanks to the folks listed below who assembled the shed as this was NO small task:

Matt Gallant, Road Agent
Robert Rossi, retired Road Agent – master lift driver
Rob Caron, Selectman
Herb Smith, R.L. Rossi employee – who kept us straight.

Our canopy handlers:

Dennis Quintal
FC Sam Richard
Lenny Nichlos

Thanks Again!
